There are countless apps to run on iPhone. On the Apple Watch, as long as you bring your iPhone with you at the time of your releases, the choice is still rather plethoric since it is the iPhone which supplies the data, the watch is only used to display them.
Since the Apple Watch Series 2, it is possible to run only with the watch thanks to its autonomous GPS. And there, the choice of compatible applications is very limited.
Nike+ Run Club
The Nike+ Run Club application offers a convincing solution for those who want to run without their iPhone and are not very fond of Apple’s default application (like me). The race information is much more readable than on the Apple Workout app and the app design is much more fun. GPS information looks reliable and gives almost the same results as my Garmin 220. Nike+ Run Club allows you to define a distance, time or pace target, but it is not currently possible to define split sessions, for example.
Strava
The Strava app offers a simple and essential solution for those who want to run without their iPhone. The race information is legible and the feedback works well. A downside for the moment: the total absence of vibration and a summary of allure for each kilometre. I hope that Strava will add features to the watch as their application and website outperform those of all other competitors (if they could ever add the creation of specific sessions, split by e. g., as Garmin does…).

MotiFIT Run
The MotiFIT Run application offers the most advanced solution for running with the Apple Watch. The app is a real goldmine for functionality and customization is pushed to the extreme. The settings can be fine-tuned up to the detail, each data of the race screen of the watch is customizable and icing on the cake, the application offers audio feedback on the watch. However, the application of these measures is dependent on stability and reliability. She pays for her youthful flaws, but the developer works hard to solve the problems. I will continue to use it because I have my Garmin 220 running next to it but until the bugs are fixed, I don’t recommend the application.
